Best News Ever: Boogong is Back for 2022

“One, two … Boogong’s coming for you … “

Get your gruesome costumes back out of the box because Googong’s frighteningly famous event is back.

After being on hiatus since 2018 (blame the Old Cooma Road upgrade and the pandemic) event organisers have confirmed the event’s long-awaited return, stacked with scary events and entertainment to make you scream.

On Saturday 29 October get down to Rockley Oval for the return of Googong’s renowned Halloween event. Buses will be coming in from Jerrabomberra, Queanbeyan and Woden, or you can bring your own car and follow the signs to dedicated parking.

The event is expecting a monstrous 10,000 attendees who will be dressed in spectacularly spooky costumes from Screambeyan and the surrounding areas.

Boogong 2022 will have a creepy “Circus” theme, with live stage shows booked to appear. Other freaky fun will include flamethrowers and fire breathers, stilt-walking clowns, undead ribbon and silk aerialists, roving performers, a family friendly DJ and a spooky giant graveyard.

“It’s for everyone! It’s brilliant and just as many adults get into it as the kids! Some amazing costumes have been seen over the years,” said one resident on the Googong noticeboard.

The community event is a free all-ages event and visitors from around the region are welcome to attend. A freakish amount of food stalls will be on offer for purchase, and attendees are encouraged to bring a picnic set-up and enjoy the show.

“Boogong is a popular community event among Googonians and the wider community. It’s a fun opportunity to come together and get dressed up in your best ghoulish garb,” Malcom Leslie, Project Director for Googong, says.

Googong is legendary for its haunted Halloween houses and trick-or-treating. In previous years the suburb has been home to an “IT”-themed house, a giant spider trapped in its web and one very enthusiastic resident who put on a stunning spooky lights meets music display.
