What’s happened to Queanbeyan’s nightlife? This DJ wants to bring the crowds back

Jameal ‘DJ J-SWISS’ Pasitoa along with wife Cara, is on a mission to boost local night life and inject some music back into the Queanbeyan community.

Their first event is a Boyz II Men-style trio called 33 Red from the Gold Coast, who will bring smooth tunes and dance moves to the Top Pub this Friday night.

In between sets you’ll hear from DJ J-Swiss himself, as well as local act Eshan Vibes and Queanbeyan veteran DJ Sal.

“We’ve been a part of some big events in Canberra but now we’re out on our own and trying to spice Queanbeyan back up,” Jameal said.

Jameal grew up in New Zealand and moved to Australia in 2010 to play football, settling into Queanbeyan after falling in love with his wife Cara. He has been DJ ’ing in the Queanbeyan/Canberra region ever since and says that the crowds he once played for in Queanbeyan have all but died.

“I think my first gig in Queanbeyan was at Campbell and George back when it used to be the Bowling club. We’re hoping to boost Queanbeyan’s night life back up with a bit more class as well as cater to all ages,” Jameal said.

“Our first event is being held at the Toppy. 33 Red perform all around Queensland, they don’t have one genre that they stick to, they cater to the crowd and they’re awesome entertainers. We just want to give a bit of a push to local artists and other venues to bring back some local talent  and live music acts.

“We have a positive feeling this will be an awesome night and if successful maybe we would love to hear from Queanbeyan what they would like to see for the next event.”
