‘Hairdressing is in my DNA’: Meet Jo, Hare & Fawn’s newest talent
There’s always a moment for me at Hare & Fawn – somewhere between the first foil going in and the final mirror check – where I realise this isn’t just a hair appointment: it’s therapy. It’s a reset. And at Hare & Fawn, there’s a new hairdresser creating exactly that kind of moment.
Say hello to Jo Morabito.
A Queanbeyan local, Jo grew up watching her mum do hair: not in a vague, “oh that’s Mum’s job” kind of way, but properly watching. Seeing women walk in one way and leaving another.
“I grew up watching my mum do hair, seeing how she could transform not just someone’s look but also their confidence,” Jo says.
“As I got older, I realised hairdressing is more than just styling, it’s about connecting with people, listening to their stories, and helping them express who they are.”

After Year 12, Jo completed a full-time, year-long course to achieve her diploma in hairdressing, then continued to build her skills with three years of hands-on experience in a salon in Tuggeranong.
She then did something not many people could pull off: she went into business with her mum.
“We worked together for 12 years, which was an incredibly rewarding chapter of my career,” Jo says.
“Once I felt accomplished and ready for a new challenge, I decided it was time to branch out and create my own path within the industry.”

But Hare & Fawn wasn’t a random move. Jo met salon owner Emmalene Mahar in 2023, stayed in touch and “fell in love with what Emmalene had built” in her Dickson salon Eden Hair Energy and then locally at Hare & Fawn.
Now Jo’s six weeks into her new role at the Monaro Street salon and she’s absolutely loving it.
“It doesn’t feel competitive, it feels collaborative, and that creates such a great atmosphere both for us as a team and for our clients,” she says.
“I also love the level of creativity within the salon. There’s a real focus on staying up to date with trends, techniques and education which motivates me to continue evolving in my own work.”
Jo specialises in foiling, blondes, personalised colours, and precision cuts.

“I’ve always been drawn to creating beautiful blondes and working with foiling techniques to achieve soft blends, dimension, and low maintenance results that suit each individual client,” she says.
“Personalised colour is a big part of what I love. I enjoy taking the time to understand each client’s lifestyle, skin tone and goals to create something that truly complements them and feels unique.
“No two clients are the same, so I really focus on tailoring every colour to enhance their natural features.”
