This hidden spot near Lake George is hosting live dance performances next weekend
A tucked-away dance space on the edge of Lake George is about to draw a crowd, with two live performances set to take over Mirramu Creative Arts Centre next weekend as part of Australian Dance Week 2026.
Described as “a place where art and landscape meet”, Mirramu will host two events on Saturday 2 May, inviting locals to spend a full day exploring movement, creativity and the natural beauty of the lake.

The day kicks off with a Dance & Healing Workshop, led by three acclaimed international artists: Debora Di Centa (Italy/Australia), Floeur Alder (WA) and Grace Peng (Taiwan).
Across two hours, participants will be guided through a mix of sound, movement and nature-based practices — blending expressive dance with elements of somatic and contact improvisation.

It’s open to everyone, from complete beginners to experienced dancers, and will move between the outdoors and Mirramu’s light-filled studio.
Afterwards, guests are encouraged to roll out a picnic rug, enjoy lunch under the trees and take in the lakeside setting before the afternoon performance.

Djilba: A Moment in Time

At 3pm, dancer-choreographer Floeur Alder will perform Djilba, a poetic solo work created in collaboration with sculptor-writer Virginia Ward.
The piece draws on their time on Menang Noongar Country in Western Australia’s Great Southern region, honouring Djilba — a season of transition, emergence and growth. It also reflects stories generously shared by local Traditional Owners Larry Blight and Aunty Vernice of the Menang Clan, Noongar Nation.
Described as “playful and meditative”, Djilba is re-shaped for each location it’s performed in. At Mirramu, it will once again respond to the land, water and sky surrounding Lake George.
(Attendees from the morning workshop receive a $5 discount on adult tickets for the performance.)
Presented by Ausdance ACT for Australian Dance Week, with support from Mirramu Arts Centre and Australian Dance Party. Produced by Kiri Morcombe.
