There was something a bit special about growing up in West Queanbeyan.
It was partly the proximity to the Queanbeyan Pool, partly getting a Bubble-o-Bill at Nic’s Convenience Store every other day and partly shooting hoops at the Ross Road basketball courts.
The family car would be filled up at the BP on Uriarra Road (now a Metro) and if you were lucky enough, you lived close enough to Queanbeyan High that you could walk home at lunch and annoy mum, who was laid up on the lounge with a packet of Mint Slice watching Days of Our Lives.
