Two Queanbeyan parks take home international awards

Every time you take your little ones to run under the mini water fountains at Queen Elizabeth II Park, you’re watching them play in a world class facility.

Both the Queen Elizabeth II and Queanbeyan parks have again been awarded with the internationally-recognised Green Flag award. The Green Flag awards recognise well-managed green spaces around the world, setting a benchmark for excellence and celebrating great parks.

“Queen Elizabeth II and Queanbeyan Park are two of only 11 Green Flag awarded parks in Australia and we’re proud to have these world-standard parks in our region,” says Queanbeyan-Palerang Regional Council Mayor Kenrick Winchester.

“This year marks the fifth year in a row that we’ve brought home a Green Flag for these parks and we’ll continue to keep them both to this high standard for years to come.”

QPRC’s Acting Manager Urban Landscapes, Sean Kaden, says he’s proud of the council teams that care for our parks.

“In scorching heat or frosty winter mornings they’re out pruning, weeding, mowing, or planting for the future of the park, not just how it looks today,” Sean says.

Xyst Green Flag Ambassador in Australia, Karl Nesbit, encouraged Queanbeyan residents to get out and enjoy the parks over summer.

“[Both parks] showcase the dedication, expertise, and technical skill of the operations team working tirelessly to provide environments that cater to the wellbeing of the community,” he said.
